Niran is the Lead Counsel in the Firm. He has over twenty years’ experience in the Nigerian law sector. He has appeared as lead counsel in all the courts of record in Nigeria, including the Supreme Court. He heads the Firm’s Dispute Management Department. Our Dispute Management Department, apart from helping clients to competently resolve dispute as they arise, is also a strategy powerhouse to help clients prevent, avoid and manage potential disputes before they fester. Niran has horned his skills in dispute prevention, management and resolution in the legal system, particularly in Nigeria.
Experience
- Successfully prosecuted a claim in excess of Twenty One Billion Naira on behalf of a major Nigerian Bank against a State Government and its investment vehicle.
- Successfully defended an indigenous land holding family at the Supreme Courtin a dispute over a huge parcel of waterfront land in Lagos State.
- Prosecuted claims by indigenous land holding families against a State Governmentfor acquiring the families’ land for public purposes and utilizing same for private purposes.
- Successfully represented at the Supreme Court and urged the Court to set aside concurrent findings by the Court of Appeal and the High Court of Lagos State in respect of an auctioned property in a choice area of Lagos State.
- Advised an international conglomerate on the acquisition of a parcel of land worth overa Billion Naira in an industrial estate in Ogun State.
- Part of the team that helped a major oil company to manage its dispute with a major bank and the Debt Management Office in respect of debt owed to the Bankand receivable due to the Company from the Federal Government of Nigeria. The DMO issued sovereign notes that were swapped in favour of the Bank.
- Part of the team that successfully managed a dispute between the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the managing director of amajor oil company with respect to petroleum subsidy claims against the Company and its director.
- Led the team that successfully managed the dispute between the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and a property developer in respect ofpetition on a property swap agreement in Ikoyi and Ikeja GRA, Lagos State in which the developer was adjudged by the Court of Appeal as the bona fide owner of both assets under the swap arrangement.
- Part of the team that successfully advised and prevented a dispute between an anti-corruption agency and a former Principal Private Secretary to the President of Nigeria.
- Successfully represented the subsidiary of anIsraeli based construction conglomerate in a construction dispute with claims awarded in excess of Two Hundred Million Naira against the Ondo State Government.
- Successful representation of various clients in election petitions in various tribunalsand Court of Appeal.
- Represented a top officer of the Ogun State judiciary in a charge of official corruption at the Supreme Court.
- Successfully represented a former managing director of the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company in charges onprocurement fraud and money laundering at the Federal High Cour
- Successfully prosecuted, on the instruction of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission,a former head of a Federal Government owned educational institution on charges of infringement of the reporting obligation under the ICPC Act.
- Successfully managedthe dispute between a former bursar of a Federal Government owned university and the University in a claim bothering on unlawful suspension and dismissal.
- Successfully managed a dispute between the Federal Judicial Service Commission and one of its employees on a claim bothering on unfair dismissal.
- Successfully represented a whistle blower who was initially suspended and dismissed by a Federal educational institution. The whistle blower wasreinstated by the courts and generously compensated by the institution after reinstatement under a term of settlement brokered after the favourable judgments.
- Led the team that successfully brokered a settlement at the Supreme Court in respect of a large parcel of urban landin which the Court of Appeal had set aside the judgment entered by the High Court in favour of a property and investment company.
- Successfully represented two major religious organisations in claims filed by indigenous landownerson large parcels of land occupied by the organisations as their campgrounds.
- Successfully represented a private university in setting aside the wrongful execution of a judgment on theland utilized by the University as its Campus.
- Ongoing representation on appeal of a maritime worker in an oil bunkering charge filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission
